Family Of Woman Killed In New Haven Plans Legal Action Against Club Owners

The family of a woman killed at a New Haven night club last month says the club’s owners should be held responsible.

Erika Robinson, 26, was shot at the Key Club Cabaret on Oct. 26. Five others were hurt in the shooting.

Their grief still painfully raw, Robinson’s family members are seeking comfort in their faith  and in the promise of justice. They thanked New Haven Police for identifying a suspect, but they vowed to hold responsible all the people who contributed to Erika’s shooting death.

“To those people who prey on our city youth for financial gain, it is the family’s intention to strike back and hold them responsible with all the legal remedies that are available to them,” said attorney Michael Dolan

The family’s spokesman says most immediately that means the club’s owners.

Erika, a young fashion designer, was killed and five others, ages 19 to 34, were shot at around 3:30 in the morning inside the club.

Though the club allows patrons under 21, it has a BYOB area where, after hours, customers can drink their own booze.

In the wake of the shooting, Gov. Dannel Malloy stood with New Haven Mayor John DeStefano in New Haven.

“These types of clubs are dangerous,” Gov. Malloy said.

Erika Robinson’s family seems to agree. The club is closed now during the criminal investigation. Erika’s family would like it to stay that way.

“It’s about accountability, bringing people accountable, as attorney Dolan said, who prey upon our youth in the community who are at these establishments for entertainment,” said family spokesman Shafiq Abdussabur. “This violence must end. They ask people to unify, to end these acts of violence.”
