Man Surrenders To Farmington Police After Short Standoff

Bay David Owens, The Hartford Courant

FARMINGTON — Police Monday night evacuated several units at the Farmington Edge condominiums along Songbird Lane as they sought to contact a man possibly holed up at the complex.

The incident ended peacefully about 9:30 p.m. when the man surrended to police. He was taken away in an ambulance.

Officers were called for a domestic disturbance involving a man and a woman, police Lt. Colin Ryan said. The woman left the unit, then returned and could not get back into the home.

Ryan said police had information that concerned them enough to move neighbors out of their nearby homes.

Initially, the man would not talk to police.

Farmington’s entire shift of officers answered the call. Bristol police assisted Farmington officers at the scene. The condo complex is off Route 6 near the Bristol line.

New Britain, West Hartford and Plainville sent officers to respond to routine police calls in Farmington.

A SWAT team responded about 9 p.m.
