The race against ice dams started early for some homeowners.
While most folks wait until the snow stops falling to pull out the roof rake, a two-man crew with CTHandiman, Inc. was actually roof raking during Thursday’s snowstorm.
The strategy was to remove snow in stages so that it would be easier to clear roofs.
The ultimate goal of the snow removal was to prevent ice dams.
“We don’t want ice dams to start accumulating, start building up, and then if it starts building up then it’s going to run into other problems for the homeowners,” Miguel Negron of CTHandiman said.
Water from melting snow usually pools behind ice dams, and the water can then back up under shingles and seep into walls.
