With frigid cold temperatures forecast for the next few days, Gov. Dannel P. Malloy has activated the state’s severe cold weather protocol through Saturday morning, directing state agencies to make sure those who need shelter receive it as temperatures drop to the single digits.
“We must continue to protect the most vulnerable members of our state’s population during these severe cold weather outbreaks,” Malloy said in a statement. “I urge anyone in need of shelter to call 2-1-1 and encourage local communities to consider opening warming centers or other facilities to help people in need.”
Lows on Friday morning will be between 3 and 8 degrees but it will even colder with the wind factored on. More seasonable winter temperatures will return on Saturday.
