WINSTED — A home on Prospect Street was heavily damaged by fire early Monday.
Crews responded to 115 Prospect St. on the report of a fire around 3:30 a.m., fire officials said. A resident and a dog were able to escape from the home and no injuries were reported.
Winsted Deputy Fire Chief Curt Mongeau said heavy fire was showing inside the building when firefighters arrived. While they worked firefighters battled frigid temperatures and gusting winds. Mongeau said one fire hydrant was available but a second hydrant had to be dug out from the snow.
The home suffered severe damage and its roof collapsed. Several area towns responded to assist in battling the fire. The cause remains under investigation, Mongeau said.
