Teenager Dies In New Haven Shooting
NEW HAVEN — Police on Tuesday identified the 17-year-old who was shot and killed Monday night as Taijhon Washington of New Haven.
He was shot along with his 16-year-old half-brother, whose name was not released, shortly before 9 p.m.
Police were called to Butler and Lilac streets at 8:56 p.m. for a report of gunfire and when they arrived found the two young men on the sidewalk in front of Lincoln Basset Elementary School.
The 16-year-old lives in Hamden. Police said he is in critical condition at Yale-New Haven Hospital.
Police officers heard of a possible third shooting victim. They followed evidence from the crime scene to an apartment house on Newhall Street where they found a man who had been assaulted. His injuries were minor, police said, and his assault does not appear to be related to the shooting, police said.
Detectives are asking that anyone with information call them at 203-946-6304. Police said callers can remain anonymous.
